Three WNY Events You Won’t Want to Miss This Summer

Looking for something fun to do this summer in Western New York? The area is gearing back up for outdoor fun after a year off and has more things to explore than ever before.

Garden Walk Buffalo Garden With Walkway

America’s largest garden tour, Garden Walk Buffalo is the perfect place for plant lovers to spend an afternoon. The annual event will be held in the City of Buffalo July 24-25 from 10:00am to 4:00pm and will feature over 300 residential, community and public gardens to explore. Kleinhans Music Hall will serve as the headquarters for the event with maps, merchandise for sale, and volunteers who can answer any questions you have. This is a completely FREE event, with no tickets required.

Paddles Up Niagara

Looking for a fun activity on Grand Island? The 15th annual Paddles Up Niagara will be held on Saturday, July 31 from 7:00am to Noon at Beaver Island State Park. No matter if you’re an experienced kayaker or a novice, you’ll have a great time enjoying the Niagara River with other local paddlers. There will be two morning Eco Tours, the first being held from 7:00am to 8:00am (11 spaces currently available) and a second from 8:00am to 9:00am (fully booked). The Eco Tours are designed to be smaller in size (15 paddlers), so everyone can hear the guides who will discuss the plant and animal life along the river.

The larger Fun Paddle will be held from 10:30am to Noon (443 spaces currently available). It begins at Beaver Island Beach, taking you around Little Beaver Island and back towards the launch site. From there, you can choose to continue to the East River Marsh or call it an afternoon. Best of all, this is a completely FREE event with the first 200 registered participants receiving a commemorative t-shirt!

The Borderland Music + Arts Festival

There’s no better way to close out the summer then by checking out the 2021 Borderland Music + Arts Festival at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. This year’s festival will be held September 18-19, with a variety of popular acts performing including Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, The Revivalists and many more. There will also be several artisans and craft vendors on hand for you to explore once your favorite artists leave the stage.

No matter if you prefer a weekend exploring local gardens, a fun day on the Niagara River or exploring the local music scene, there’s something for everyone to do this summer in WNY.
